Associated Press

A 9-year-old girl rolled a utility vehicle Monday, killing her 8-year-old passenger, on a rural road in western Missouri, officials said.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the crash happened on a county road near Rosendale, about 75 miles north of Kansas City, Missouri. Officials said the girl driving the Polaris Ranger UTV overcorrected, and the vehicle overturned on its side.

The girl who died was identified as Alexis Walker of Leavenworth, Kansas. The young driver was rushed to a hospital in serious condition.

No other vehicles were involved.
