Fremont school board votes to send back to publisher sex-ed textbook after parent complaints

Published January 08, 2015

The Fremont school board is sending back to the publisher a sex-education textbook after complaints from parents that it is too graphic for ninth-graders.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/1kCXKMw ) that the board voted 3-2 Wednesday night to return "Your Health Today" to publisher McGraw-Hill and use last year's sex education textbook. But the board also decided that the old textbook won't be sent home with students because it contains outdated and inaccurate information.

Some parents objected to much of the content in the new book's chapters on sex, which included references to sex toys, bondage, erotic touch and dating websites.

Superintendent Jim Morris says he hoped the publisher would be able to make the necessary changes, but that there were no guarantees it would be possible.
