Florida police say officer shot man after car chase

Published May 23, 2016

Associated Press

Authorities say a police officer in Florida has shot a man following a car chase.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Chief Chris Butler told local media outlets that police spotted the man driving a car Sunday night that had been used in a shooting in April. Butler says the driver refused to stop. He says police then pursued the vehicle, adding it later collided with a patrol car before crashing into a building.

Butler says an officer approached the car and gave the man commands, but he didn't listen and got out of the car, prompting the officer to fire several shots.

Authorities said the man was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. He wasn't immediately identified.
