Florida Drum Teacher Gets Life Sentence for Molesting Student

Drum teacher Sandeep Munshi, 49, was convicted of molesting a 10-year-old student for more than a year.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- A South Florida drum teacher will be sentenced to life in prison for sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl for more than a year during her weekly music lesson.

Sandeep Munshi was convicted last month of six felony counts involving the girl and is scheduled to be sentenced Thursday.

Munshi, 49, taught traditional Indian and Middle Eastern drum lessons at a Hindu temple. His student testified she was afraid to come forward sooner because she worried no one would believe her story about the renowned music guru.

Munshi rejected a plea offer that would have sent him to prison for 15 years.
