First week of testimony in Trayvon Martin case hinges on phone call, neighbor witnesses

The first week of testimony in the second-degree murder trial of George Zimmerman produced conflicting accounts of the late-night scuffle that ended in the death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.
Two neighbors and a police officer gave testimony Friday that appeared to bolster claims by the defense that the neighborhood watch volunteer was pinned down by the teenager.
Zimmerman claims that he shot the teen last February because he feared for his life while being beat by the teen.
Prosecutors argue that Zimmerman pursued the teen and had no reason to use lethal force.
The case could hinge on the various recollections about the confrontation heard by multiple neighbors and a friend who was on the phone with the teen.
