Feds: Passenger from Jamaica accused of trying to smuggle cocaine in her luggage at JFK

Published May 03, 2016

Associated Press

Federal authorities say a passenger on a flight from Jamaica was arrested at New York's Kennedy Airport and accused of trying to smuggle cocaine into the county.

The Department of Homeland Security says it happened Tuesday.

It says the passenger, Chevelle Rusheen Nesbeth, arrived in New York on a flight from Montego Bay.

The agency says about 2.5 pounds of cocaine with a street value of over $45,000 was concealed in the handles of her luggage.

The agency says Nesbeth faces federal narcotics smuggling charges.

It wasn't immediately known if she had a lawyer.
