Father indicted with murder of twin girls found in hot car

Published November 03, 2016

Prosecutors say a father has been indicted with murder in the death of his 15-month-old twin girls found in a hot car in west Georgia.

Coweta County District Attorney Pete Skandalakis tells local news media Thursday that 24-year-old Asa North was also indicted on cruelty to children and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana. North is accused of drinking before leaving the twins in their car seats in 90-degree temperatures.

Witnesses said they saw North carry the children to an inflatable kiddie pool in a frantic attempt to cool them off. The girls were pronounced dead at a nearby hospital Aug. 4.

Carroll County police say the girl's mother was at a hospital in Atlanta at the time, visiting her sister, who was in a serious car crash.
