EX-ND student convicted of marrying Bosnian woman for $15K in fairy tale wedding gets released

A former University of North Dakota student who pleaded guilty to marrying a Bosnian woman for $15,000 in a fairy tale wedding is being released to live with his father in Arizona.

Jeffrey Goble originally was ordered to stay in a Fargo halfway house until his sentencing Sept. 3.

Goble was convicted of marriage fraud and could face up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine when sentenced.

Authorities say the 23-year-old Goble agreed to marry 28-year-old Alma Numic for the money so she could obtain U.S. citizenship. They married in June 2008 at Fairy Tale Weddings in Grand Forks.

Numic has since moved to Bosnia.

Court records show Goble was arrested in May after returning to the U.S. from Bosnia, where he had traveled in December 2009.
