Ex-mogul Conrad Black returns to prison in Fla.

Published November 17, 2014

Associated Press

Officials say former media mogul Conrad Black has returned to federal prison in Florida to finish his sentence for defrauding investors.

Federal Bureau of Prisons spokesman Chris Burke says 67-year-old Black checked into the Miami prison just after 1 p.m. Tuesday.

In June, a federal judge in Chicago sentenced Black to 3 1/2 years. Prosecutors said he would be given credit for more than two years he already served.

The judge had originally sentenced Black to 6 1/2 years after he was convicted in 2007 of defrauding investors in Hollinger International Inc. Black was freed on bail to pursue what would be partially successful appeals.

Messages seeking comment from Black's attorney weren't immediately returned.

Black's empire once included the Chicago Sun-Times and The Daily Telegraph of London.
