Ex-cops convicted in Pa. cover-up case lose appeal

A federal appeals court has upheld the convictions of two former Pennsylvania police officers accused of hindering an FBI investigation into the beating death of an illegal Mexican immigrant.

The Philadelphia-based 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals says the evidence shows that former Shenandoah police Chief Matthew Nestor falsified a police report and that former Lt. William Moyer lied to the FBI.

The appeals court ruled Wednesday.

Nestor was sentenced last year to 13 months in prison. Moyer got three months.

Nestor and two subordinates were accused of helping a group of white high school football players conceal their roles in the July 2008 attack on 25-year-old Luis Ramirez in the small, ethnically charged town in northeastern Pennsylvania.
