Ex-convict charged in DC mansion slayings pleads not guilty

An ex-convict charged in the slayings of three family members and their housekeeper inside a Washington, D.C., mansion has pleaded not guilty.

News media outlets report that 35-year-old Daron Dylon Wint entered the plea Friday at an arraignment in D.C. Superior Court. He was indicted earlier this week on 20 felony charges including murder, kidnapping, extortion and arson. A hearing was set for May 20.

Wint, a resident of Lanham, Maryland, was arrested a week after a May 14 fire at the $3 million mansion. Firefighters found business executive Savvas Savopoulos, his wife, Amy, and their 10-year-old son, Philip, dead inside. The family's housekeeper, Veralicia Figueroa, was found unconscious and taken to a hospital, where she died.
