Edison statue being moved to Ohio hometown, then US Capitol

Thomas Edison is headed to the U.S. Capitol, but first he's stopping in his Ohio hometown.

A nearly 7-foot, 900-pound bronze statue of the prolific inventor holding a light bulb will join the historic figures at Statuary Hall in Washington later this year.

The statue has been displayed at the Ohio Statehouse. The Blade in Toledo (http://bit.ly/25ACxK1 ) reports it was removed Tuesday and will spend the summer at the public library in Milan (MY'-lan) before going to Washington.

Each state can display two notable figures at Statuary Hall. Edison will replace a statue of former Ohio Gov. William Allen, a Democrat from the 1800s who supported Southern slave owners.

The Allen statue might move to the Ross County Historical Society in Chillicothe (chihl-ih-KAHTH'-ee), if its floor can handle the weight.
