Drew Peterson enters Stateville prison to begin serving sentence for murdering 3rd wife

Published January 13, 2015

Associated Press

Less than 24 hours after screaming out his innocence in court, Drew Peterson has been transferred from jail to an Illinois state prison to begin serving a 38-year term for murder.

The Will County Sheriff's Office confirmed the former suburban Chicago police officer was handed over for transfer to the Stateville prison outside Joliet on Friday at around 9:30 a.m. Peterson will get four years credit for time already served in jail.

A judge sentenced him Thursday for the 2004 drowning death of his fourth wife, Kathleen Savio. He's a suspect in the disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy Peterson.

Just after sitting at a microphone to address the judge at his sentencing, Peterson exploded in anger. He looked at Savio's family and shouted, "I did not kill Kathleen!"
