Doctor pleads no contest to wandering through stranger's home at 4 a.m., pays restitution

Published May 03, 2016

Associated Press

A Rhode Island doctor found wandering around a stranger's home at 4 a.m. has pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor trespassing charge for what he has called "an honest mistake."

The Westerly Sun reports (http://bit.ly/1u6Bzh9 ) that Roy Main entered the plea Tuesday in Washington County Superior Court and was sentenced to one year of probation. He originally was charged with felony breaking and entering.

Main has said he was trying to make a house call to check on a patient.

In 2013, he walked into a home in Westerly about a mile from the house he was looking for and began calling out the name Bill. That woke up the homeowners. One called police while the other hit and subdued the doctor.

Main agreed to pay $1,318 in restitution and not contact the homeowners.
