Deputy shoots suspect who was involved in chase

Authorities say a St. Tammany Parish deputy has shot and killed a suspect after a car chase in Covington.

Sgt. Nick Manale of the Louisiana State Police said the shooting happened about 5:30 p.m. Saturday. He says a traffic violation led to the pursuit, and the suspect, a male, was fatally shot at the end of the chase. It's not clear what exactly led to the chase or why the officer opened fire.

Manale says it's still very early in the investigation and he couldn't release many details. A female was riding in the suspect's car but it doesn't appear that she was injured.

No deputies were hurt in the chase or shooting.
