Demonstrators to rally at Mall of America to protest killing of black man by Minneapolis cops

Published May 03, 2016

Associated Press

The Minneapolis chapter of Black Lives Matter is planning to rally next week at the Mall of America to protest the November killing of a black man by Minneapolis police.

Twenty-four-year-old Jamar Clark was shot on Nov. 15 during what police called a struggle. Some who say they saw the shooting claim Clark was handcuffed.

Protesters say they will be at the Mall of America next Wednesday, unless authorities meet their demands, which include releasing video from the shooting.

A protest at the mall last Dec. 20 disrupted holiday shopping and prompted the mall to temporarily close some stores. Dozens of people were charged, but charges against the protest's 11 organizers have been dismissed.

The mall is a private property and its policy does not allow protests.
