Dad: Man shot at TV station thought world was ending

Published April 29, 2016

Associated Press

The father of a man shot and wounded by police after walking into a Baltimore TV station wearing an animal costume and a fake bomb says his son believed the world was ending and might have been trying to get the message out.

Edward Brizzi of Elkridge, Maryland, tells news outlets his 25-year-old son, Alex, had a breakdown two weeks ago. He says his son was shot four times Thursday, but is expected to survive.

Police have not released the name of the man who walked into WBFF-TV's lobby. Authorities say the man gave a guard a flash drive, saying he wanted the station to broadcast its contents. The station was evacuated. Police say the man was shot when he refused to show his hands.

Edward Brizzi says he agrees with how police handled the situation.
