Crash involving driver, 100, rekindles age debate

Jack Wyard of Los Angeles is 92 and sees no reason to surrender his car keys, not to mention the freedom they offer to get up and go whenever he wants.

After all, the retired sales manager says, he got a perfect score on the written test when he renewed his driver's license two years ago.

On Thursday another licensed Los Angeles driver, 100 years old, accidentally backed his Cadillac into a group of schoolchildren, injuring 14 people.

The accident has renewed a debate over when elderly people should quit driving.

Wyard says he thinks he'll know when.

Ruth Nadel, 98, of Washington, D.C., voluntarily gave up her car keys in her mid-80s. She believes older drivers should be required to take more road tests.
