Course-side resident accused of killing golfer

A resident of a Texas country club neighborhood is accused of fatally shooting a golfer who was approaching to ask about the shooting of his dog.

The Grayson County Sheriff's Office says 53-year-old Robert McInchak of Denison is free on bond after being booked on suspicion of murder in the Tuesday death of Shellman Lough Smith Jr.

Sheriff's Sgt. Rickey Wheeler says Smith was with a group at the Denison Country Club when his dog wandered into a yard. The group heard a shot and saw the dog collapse. As Smith approached, a second shot was heard and Smith fell wounded in the chest.

Deputies found Smith in McInchak's back yard. Wheeler says a .22-caliber rifle was taken from the scene. Wheeler says McInchak had no attorney Wednesday. His telephone number isn't listed.

The dog is expected to survive.
