Published January 13, 2015

Associated Press

Connecticut police say a Norwich officer has been shot and injured at an apartment complex where a suicidal gunman is in a standoff with police.

Police said Monday the officer was shot several times at around 4 p.m. after police responded to a report that a man at the Cedar Glen Apartment Complex had threatened to provoke police into killing him. Police said several shots were fired.

The officer was taken by helicopter to Hartford Hospital. His condition was not released.

Police said they evacuated the building and are negotiating with the man. It wasn't immediately known if the man was alone in the apartment.
