Conn. woman cleared of giving weapons to son

Published January 07, 2015

Associated Press

Authorities in Connecticut have dropped charges against a woman who was accused of sending her 12-year-old son to school with a BB gun and a knife.

Sylvia Mojica had faced a single charge of risk of injury to a minor.

Mojica told Hartford police that she gave the weapons to her son in October for protection because he had been getting bullied.

She later said she had no idea that he took the weapons to school, but she accepted blame so he wouldn't be arrested.

School officials denied the boy had been bullied.

Mojica tells The Hartford Courant that she's glad she was able to prove her innocence. She says a juvenile charge against her son was also dropped.
