College upholds denial of tenure to hunger strike professor

A Pennsylvania college is standing by its denial of tenure to a professor who went on a hunger strike over the decision.

WFMZ-TV (http://bit.ly/2dbaUmT) reports Lafayette College trustees held a meeting Sept. 15 to consider reversing the decision in the case of Juan Rojo.

But the board sent Rojo a letter Tuesday saying officials stand by the decision. The board says the denial was based "on the compelling reason that distinction in teaching ... had not been demonstrated."

Rojo announced during an Aug. 30 faculty meeting he would drink only water and sports drinks until the issue was resolved. He ended the hunger strike Sept. 5.

Rojo's contract with Lafayette ends June 30. He told the station he hasn't decided what he'll do next.
