Closing arguments expected in NC terrorism trial

Published November 17, 2014

Associated Press

Closing arguments are expected in the federal trial of three North Carolina men accused of plotting to attack the U.S. Marine Corps base in Quantico, Va., along with overseas locations.

Mohammad Omar Aly Hassan, Ziyad Yaghi and Hysen Sherifi pleaded not guilty to the charges at the trial being held in U.S. District Court in New Bern. The closing arguments are expected to begin Tuesday.

Three others pleaded guilty previously, including Daniel Patrick Boyd, who testified against the others. Boyd pleaded guilty in February to federal terrorism charges. Two of his sons also have pleaded guilty to charges associated with the case.

Another defendant, Anes Subasic, has declined to have an attorney represent him and will be tried after the trial for the others.
