California man pleads guilty to 3 counts of assault in 2014 Greyhound bus crash in Arizona

A California man accused of attacking the driver of a Greyhound bus and causing it to go off an Arizona freeway in 2014 has pleaded guilty to three counts of aggravated assault.

Maricopa County Superior Court officials say 26-year-old Maquel Morris, of Los Angeles, had a change of plea hearing Wednesday. His sentencing is set for July 24.

Morris was facing assault and endangerment charges after 24 passengers on the Dallas-bound bus were injured in the early morning hours of Jan. 23, 2014.

Authorities say Morris struck the driver and tried to take control of the steering wheel.

The bus went into the median of Interstate 10 before passengers helped the driver regain control.

In a jailhouse interview after his arrest, Morris said he had used methamphetamine days earlier.
