Buttercup the baby giraffe makes public debut at Santa Barbara Zoo

The public is getting its first glimpse of a baby giraffe born last week at the Santa Barbara Zoo.

KEYT-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1EVGTIX ) "Buttercup" began exploring the giraffe exhibit Monday under the watchful eye of his mother Audrey.

Buttercup was born Thursday. He's already 186 pounds and over 6 feet tall.

After a few sure steps, the young calf broke out in a run, much to the delight of children on hand for the public debut.

Buttercup will soon have a playmate. Betty Lou the giraffe is expecting, and is due in March.
