Brush fire burns more than 100 acres in New Hampshire

A brush fire has burned more than 100 acres of forest in New Hampshire, forcing nearby residents from their homes.

The fire was first reported Thursday afternoon in Stoddard, about 40 miles west of the state capital of Concord.

Firefighters say flames were 12 feet high in some places.

Residents of 17 homes had to be evacuated.

Fire officials say two people were spotted lighting fires in the area, and the blaze is now being investigated as a possible case of arson.

Officials say the fire has not yet been contained. No injuries have been reported so far.

It's the sixth brush fire to break out in Stoddard in the past week, and one of several burning across the state.

Democratic Gov. Maggie Hassan (HAS'-uhn) plans to visit Stoddard Friday.
