Boston University student newspaper apologizes for April Fool rape spoof

Boston University's independent student newspaper, The Daily Free Press, is apologizing for an April Fools' spoof of rape and drugs.

The Boston Globe reported Monday's print-only "Disney Free Press" led with "seven frat dwarves" arrested for drugging and sexually assaulting a female student, "the fairest of them all," and a picture of Snow White's appletini with a date-rape drug.

Students blasted the paper on social networks. BU spokesman Tom Testa said the university has no control over the content and looks forward to reading an apology it promised.

Editor Chelsea Diana wrote on its website Monday night the paper didn't intend "to inappropriately make light of serious issues," and aims to learn from its mistakes and move forward.

The editor-in-chief of the paper has resigned. The woman who was set to take over the position for the fall semester will step into the role right away.

School officials are considering taking further action.

BU recently named a commission to study its men's hockey culture after two players were accused of assaulting women.
