Boston University fraternity suspended over hazing allegations

Published November 20, 2014

Associated Press

A Boston University fraternity has been suspended while the school and campus police investigate allegations that its members participated in hazing.

University officials say the BU chapter of Sigma Chi was placed on interim suspension Friday by the dean of students. A college spokesman says the hazing allegations were reported to the university within the past week, but he did not know the date of the alleged hazing incident.

The university said in a statement that the allegation involves possible "extended isolation" and forced consumption of alcohol.

Michael Dunn, executive director for Sigma Chi International, tells The Boston Globe the national organization is also investigating.

It is the third time in eight months that a Greek organization at BU has faced hazing allegations.
