A US Airways employee died Friday at Phoenix's Sky Harbor Airport, after he was trapped between two conveyor belts.

Robert Demarco, 60, was caught in the baggage handling system Friday afternoon. According to police, Demarco became lodged between the upper and lower conveyor belts of the sorting system and was later pronounced dead.

"This appears to be a tragic accident and Phoenix Police detectives will be working hard to determine exactly how and why this incident occurred," police spokesman James Holmes said.

According to a US Airways spokesperson, Demarco was a maintenance employee with several years of service with the company.
