Authorities: 'Person of interest' arrested in suspicious NC condominium fires that left 2 dead

North Carolina authorities say they've arrested a man suspected of involvement in suspicious fires that killed two people and heavily damaged two large condominium buildings in a seaside community.

Carolina Beach Police Chief Keith Hinkle said Sunday that Marshall Doran is charged with attempted first-degree burglary. Hinkle says the 22-year-old from Kure Beach is a "person of interest" in three separate fires early Saturday.

Two bodies were recovered from the rubble of the condominium buildings. The victims have not yet been publicly identified.

Authorities say Doran is being held on a $2.5-million secured bond at the New Hanover County jail, where staff said he has not been assigned an attorney.

Records show Doran already faced felony charges related to the death of two men in a Feb. 13 hit-and-run.
