Aunt of teen accused in slaying charged with supplying gun

Published February 11, 2016

Associated Press

Federal prosecutors say a Chicago woman has been indicted on charges that she supplied her 14-year-old niece with the handgun the girl allegedly used to kill another teen during an argument over a boy.

The U.S. Attorney's office in Chicago announced Thursday that 34-year-old Vandetta Redwood is charged with transferring a firearm to a juvenile while knowing that the girl intended to use it in a violent crime and possession of a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school zone. She pleaded not guilty on Thursday and was ordered held without bond.

The 2014 slaying of 14-year-old Endia Martin gained national attention because authorities said it stemmed from a Facebook feud that two girls were having over a boy.

Redwood's niece faces a murder charge in juvenile court.
