Attorney: Working on bond for deputy marshal in boy's death

An attorney for the second of the two deputy Marksville city marshals who was being held on $1 million bail in the November shooting death of a boy says his client is in the process of bonding out of jail.

Jonathan Goins, an attorney for Derrick Stafford, said Thursday that he's still completing paperwork to arrange for his client's release.

Goins said he hopes to have Stafford out of jail before the weekend.

Stafford, a lieutenant with the Marksville Police Department, was indicted in December along with Norris Greenhouse Jr. for second-degree murder in the Nov. 3 shooting death of 6-year-old Jeremy Mardis, and attempted second-degree murder in the wounding of the boy's father, Chris Few.

Stafford has remained in jail since his arrest. Greenhouse made bail Nov. 24.
