Arizona university regents to meet on Dreamers tuition after judge's ruling

The Arizona Board of Regents has called a special meeting to discuss a court ruling that says young immigrants granted deferred deportation status by the Obama administration should get in-state tuition.

Thursday morning's meeting comes after a judge ruled that young immigrants granted deferred deportation status are eligible for in-state college tuition.

The board overseeing the state's three public universities advanced a measure Monday that will allow so-called "dreamers" to pay less than full non-resident tuition. But it would not grant them in-state tuition rates. It could come up for a vote next month.

The ruling from Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Arthur Anderson came in a lawsuit filed by former Attorney General Tom Horne against the Maricopa County Community College District. It doesn't directly apply to universities.

New Attorney General Mark Brnovich is considering an appeal.
