An Arizona sheriff’s deputy was shot several times while trying to conduct a traffic stop.
The deputy was dispatched after a woman called 9-1-1 to say she was worried about the safety of her ex-boyfriend, who she claimed was armed and suicidal, MyFoxPhoenix.com reported.
The deputy located the man in question and tried to pull him over, which is when the suspect fired off several shots.
Witnesses say the suspect, who has not been identified, didn’t get too far.
Authorities have not released the officer’s name, but Sheriff Joe Arpaio said he is a 25-year veteran of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department, MyFoxPhoenxi.com reported.
Authorities said his injuries are “life threatening,” and he remains hospitalized in critical condition.
The shooting comes one day after a Phoenix police officer was shot by a man on a bicycle.
