APNewsBreak: Slain driver's DNA not found on officer's gun

Published April 21, 2016

Associated Press

A dashcam video shows that an unarmed driver shot to death at the end of a 2014 police chase in South Carolina appeared to briefly wave his empty hands out his window seconds before the shooting.

And a newly released investigative file reveals that the driver's DNA was not found on the muzzle of the officer's gun, though the officer had said the man grabbed the weapon.

The investigative file was released by the State Law Enforcement Division in response to a Freedom of Information request from The Associated Press.

Officer Justin Craven told investigators he didn't see Ernest Satterwhite's hands at the end of the 13-minute chase.

Craven pleaded guilty earlier this month to misdemeanor misconduct in office and was sentenced to three years of probation.
