Alaska man found dangling upside down in tree

A 53-year-old Fairbanks man who climbed a tree for exercise had to be rescued after he was found dangling upside down by one leg.

The Fairbanks Fire Department used a ladder truck to reach the man up the tree nearly 30 feet.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports the unidentified man was uninjured.

Assistant Fire Chief Ernie Misewicz told the newspaper in an email that the man decided to climb the tree because "it was something he wanted to do."

He wore spikes and a belt around his stomach. In preparing to take a rest, he lost his grip and fell backward. The belt slipped below his waist and he flipped over.

He used a cellphone attached to a lanyard around his neck to call a friend, who alerted officials.
