Published May 03, 2016

Associated Press

Police say an 8-year-old Casa Grande boy has been shot in the arm after his baby sitter accidentally discharged a handgun.

They say the boy underwent surgery later Tuesday, but he is expected to recover.

The Casa Grande Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/1UFcQgB) that the child was flown to a Phoenix hospital for specialized treatment.

Police investigators determined 39-year-old Mike Lee Dickey was removing his .45-caliber handgun from his waistband in the bathroom about 2 a.m. when it discharged.

The bullet passed through two doors, striking the boy in his upper left arm while he slept in a nearby bedroom.

Police say no charges or arrest were made at the time of the shooting, and they have forwarded a report to the Pinal County Attorney's Office for review.
