Thirty-five illegal immigrants were found packed in a van attempting to cross into the U.S. approximately five miles west of the San Ysidro Port of Entry near San Diego.
Agents observed a large number of individuals enter the vehicle on a secluded dirt road and subsequently stopped the van to question the occupants, according to the U.S. Border Patrol.
The group was then taken to a local border patrol station for processing and further investigation.
The incident, which occurred July 19, is one of two recent smuggling attempts foiled by the U.S. Border Patrol.
Just two days earlier, a Border Patrol K-9 team inspecting a Ford Truck driven by a Mexican national discovered a bag of methamphetamine weighing 9.92 pounds, carrying an estimated street value of $198,400.
