Three US Army soldiers were killed, three others were injured and six are missing after a tactical vehicle was swept from a water crossing and overturned in a swollen creek at Fort Hood, Texas, on Thursday.
The accident happened around 11:30 a.m. in an area near Cold Springs and Owl Creek, according to the Associated Press.
The bodies of the three deceased soldiers were recovered downstream from the Owl Creek Tactical low-water crossing, the Army post said in a statement obtained by Fox News.
Three other soldiers were rescued from the water, and were sent to a hospital in Gatesville, Texas, where they are listed in stable condition, the post said. Six other soliders are still missing.
Army aircraft, canine search teams, swift-water rescue watercraft and heavy trucks are being used in the search for the six missing soldiers.
The soldiers involved are from the Army’s famed 1st Cavalry Division, which is based at Fort Hood.
The names of those who were killed are being withheld until their relatives can be notified.
