25 years for ringleader of child kidnapping from Miss. elementary school over piece of land

Published January 08, 2015

Associated Press

A woman convicted of orchestrating a child's kidnapping from a Mississippi elementary school has been sentenced to 25 years in prison in the plot that started with a family property dispute.

Jesse Mae Brown Pollard was sentenced Tuesday by U.S. District Judge William Barbour Jr. in Jackson.

Five others who helped her were sentenced in January to terms ranging from eight months to a year.

The child was taken April 30 from East Kemper Elementary School in the Kemper County community of Scooba and dropped off unharmed near a stranger's mobile home the next day.

Pollard's son was allowed to avoid prosecution if he stays out of trouble for two years. Devonta Pollard is former University of Alabama basketball player.
