2 NY skydivers injured after midair collision, police say

Published September 05, 2015

Associated Press

Police say a New York woman was knocked unconscious after colliding midair with a fellow skydiver who also suffered a leg injury in the accident.

Riverhead Town Police Sgt. Stephen Palmer says Kevin Arcamona's knee hit Patricia Baronowski in the head during freefall in a jump at Skydive Long Island in Calverton on Saturday.

He says the 46-year-old Baronowski's reserve parachute automatically deployed and she landed in a tree about 15 to 20 feet above ground. She was rushed by police helicopter to a hospital.

Palmer says the 29-year-old Arcamona was taken by ambulance to another hospital.

Their injuries weren't considered life threatening.

A call for comment to Skydive Long Island wasn't immediately returned. In July, a 25-year-old man died there during a tandem jump.
