2 men charged in Florida with terror support, conspiracy

Published November 20, 2014

Associated Press

Two South Florida men of Pakistani descent have been charged with plotting to provide support to terrorists and to use mass destruction weapons within the U.S.

Federal prosecutors identified the men Friday as two brothers: 30-year-old Sheheryar Alam Qazi and 20-year-old Raees Alam Qazi. Both are naturalized U.S. citizens originally from Pakistan.

A grand jury indictment claims the two provided money, lodging, communications and other support for a conspiracy to obtain a weapon of mass destruction. The indictment provides few details other than to describe the weapon as explosives. No specific targets were identified and it wasn't clear how far along the plot was.

The two were arrested Thursday in Fort Lauderdale and had an initial court appearance Friday. Court records did not list attorneys for either man.
