Two men have pleaded not guilty to murder and weapons charges stemming from the death of a 12-year-old girl who was struck by a stray bullet last summer while riding a scooter in northern New Jersey.
The Record (http://bit.ly/1NYyjQ7 ) reports that 20-year-old Jhymiere Moore and 21-year-old Jeffery Ellerbee, both of Paterson, entered their pleas Monday during a brief court hearing.
Lawyers for both men have rejected a plea deal offered by Passaic (puh-SAY'-ihk) County prosecutors that called for 40-year prison terms in exchange for guilty pleas.
Moore, Ellerbee and another man are charged in the death of Genesis Rincon, was struck in the head last July as she rode to a family gathering in Paterson. Prosecutors have said the girl was not the intended victim.
