2 injured in chemical explosion at Oregon silicon factory

Emergency crews rushed to a Portland, Ore. silicon factory Thursday night, after two people were injured in a chemical reactor explosion.

Crews received the call for assistance from the Siltronic Corp. plant about 9:30pm, The Oregonian reported.

A fire and rescue spokesman said workers were working with trichlorsilane -- which is used to create silicon wafers -- when it exploded.

The injured pair were taken to the hospital to be treated for minor respiratory problems, KPTV reported.
