2 ex-security guards charged in death will head to trial

A trial date has been set for two former security guards who pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the death of a patient at a Washington hospital.

The Washington Post reports (http://wapo.st/28igAye ) a trial date has been scheduled for July 17, 2017, for 30-year-old Clifton Montgomery and 43-year-old Charles Brown. A grand jury indicted the two last month.

The medical examiner's office said 74-year-old James McBride died of "blunt force injuries" of the neck. McBride's death at MedStar Washington Hospital Center was ruled a homicide.

Hospital officials previously said McBride was a patient when he left Sept. 29 without being formally discharged. Officials said McBride was being escorted back to the hospital by the security guards when an altercation occurred.

Montgomery and Brown were removed from their jobs in November. They will remain out of jail until trial.
