2 Arizona law officers wounded in shootout during domestic violence call; suspect dead

Published May 03, 2016

Associated Press

Two Arizona law enforcement officers are hospitalized after a shootout with a domestic violence suspect in a small town near the New Mexico border.

Authorities say the suspect — 29-year-old Chris Ingram — later died of his wounds at a Morenci hospital.

They say Greenlee County sheriff's deputy Jon Mennen and Clifton police Sgt. Jason Mingura suffered injuries that were not life-threatening. They were being treated Tuesday at University Medical Center in Tucson.

County authorities say the officers were dispatched to a domestic violence call at about 11 p.m. Monday and exchanged gunfire with Ingram on U.S. Highway 191 in Morenci.

Details of the domestic violence incident weren't immediately available.

As of 2010, the mining town of Morenci had a population of fewer than 1,500.

Mingura is a four-year veteran of the Clifton Police Department, while Mennen has been with the Greenlee County Sheriff's Office for eight months.
