19-year-old Texas man facing stiff charges, penalties for pot brownies fearful of outcome

A 19-year-old Texas man who could face years in prison for making brownies laced with marijuana and hash oil says he's fearful of the outcome.

Jacob Lavoro was in court Wednesday following his April arrest for allegedly selling the brownies for $25. He's facing charges that carry stiff penalties, ranging from five years to life in prison, partly because hash oil is in a penalty group with amphetamines.

His attorney, Jack Holmes, says lab results show the brownies contained only a small amount of marijuana's psychoactive ingredient. Lavoro says he's "very scared," and Holmes is skeptical of what could happen in tough-on-crime Williamson County.

Prosecutor Mark Brunner says Holmes is grandstanding, noting that Lavoro was offered a plea deal that includes no jail time if he stays out of trouble.
