Published January 08, 2015

Associated Press

A North Texas teenager has died after her go-kart crashed during an autocross event near Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office on Monday identified the victim as 14-year-old Kierstin Eaddy of Flower Mound.

No cause of death was immediately listed for the teen who died following Sunday's accident.

Authorities say Eaddy was racing in a Sports Car Club of America event when the crash occurred. Police say it's unclear if the girl lost control for medical or mechanical reasons.

Witnesses say Eaddy accelerated as she passed the finish line and hit a cable. She was airlifted to a hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

The Sports Car Club of America has released a statement expressing condolences to the girl's family.
