West Virginia resorts getting late start to ski season

Published January 29, 2016

Associated Press

Some West Virginia resorts are getting a late start to ski season.

Record warm weather in December forced state resorts to suspend or severely cut back their ski operations. The resorts are back to snowmaking after cold weather settled in recently.

West Virginia Ski Areas Association spokesman Joe Stevens says Winterplace Resort near Ghent reopened its slopes on Tuesday. Canaan Valley plans to reopen on Wednesday.

Timberline and Snowshoe Mountain also are up and running after a slow December.
