Ski industry titan Vail Resorts is set to make official Wednesday that it is combining Canyons Resort and Park City Mountain Resort under one name and logo.

That will make it one of the largest ski areas in North America once a connecting lift is completed.

Vail officials are planning to make the announcement at an afternoon presentation in Park City. The combining of the two well-known ski resorts has been expected since Vail purchased Park City Mountain Resort last year for $182.5 million.

Vail announced plans for the connecting lift in December as part of $50 million in investments at the two resorts. Other plans include major upgrades of two lifts, new and improved restaurants and better snowmaking.

The projects are expected to be ready by the 2015-2016 ski season.
